Amazon Property appointed Whitepaper to reimagine the reception and arrival experience at Flat Iron and to create a brand-new tenant amenity suite on the 3rd floor, featuring shared meeting rooms for all occupiers. This design-led reposition has transformed the building, drawing on the vibrancy and character of Southwark to deliver a contemporary, compelling workplace destination.
The brief called for a warm and calming arrival experience that moved away from a traditional corporate lobby towards something more inviting and design-led. A bespoke tiled floor anchors the space, adding character and identity from the moment you enter. Warm timber panelling was introduced to soften the environment and bring a residential quality to the reception, creating a welcoming backdrop for the desk and waiting area. Bespoke banquette seating completes the scheme, offering a comfortable, crafted touchpoint that enhances both functionality and atmosphere. Together, these elements deliver a refined, comfortable, and distinctive entrance that sets the tone for the rest of the building.
Located at 44–46 Southwark Street, the building sits at the crossroads of Borough Market, Bankside, and London Bridge, an area known for its cultural vibrancy, creativity, and rich material palette. This context played a central role in shaping the design. The warmth of the timber panelling, the handcrafted feel of the bespoke tiles, and the inviting, hospitality-led atmosphere all draw inspiration from Southwark’s blend of heritage and modernity. The result is a reception and tenant lounge that feels rooted in its surroundings, echoing the texture, energy, and character that define the neighbourhood.
