Heritage redefined, ready to occupy
Whitepaper took a carefully considered design approach to redefine a fully managed workspace at 42 Portland Place, creating a design-led environment that celebrates the building’s rich architectural history while offering a contemporary, ready-to-occupy experience for modern occupiers.
The project was carefully designed around listed elements, preserving and highlighting the building’s heritage while introducing thoughtful, curated interventions.
The design approach allowed the architectural detailing to take centre stage, using the characterful historic features as a backdrop for a sophisticated yet approachable palette. Colour and furnishings were introduced with confidence but restraint, adding warmth, personality, and functionality without detracting from the heritage. Open-plan areas, meeting rooms, and breakout zones were carefully arranged to enhance flow, natural light, and usability while respecting the integrity of the listed interiors.
Materiality, texture, and bespoke furniture were all considered to create a cohesive, elevated environment that balances heritage and contemporary design. The resulting workspace is visually engaging, functional, and welcoming, providing a premium plug-and-play solution for occupiers while celebrating the building’s storied history.
The outcome is a CAT A+ managed space that sets a benchmark for heritage-led offices: sophisticated, adaptable, and ready to support modern working while honouring Marylebone’s architectural legacy.
