A bold new headquarters inspired by the landscapes of mining.
Whitepaper was appointed to deliver the CAT B refurbishment of First Quantem Minerals’ London headquarters, located within the iconic Heal’s Building on Tottenham Court Road. The brief focused on upgrading the existing office to better align with the FQM brand, increase space for employees, and introduce more desirable breakout and collaborative environments that support a relaxed and social office culture.
As a global mining company, FQM required a workspace that maintained a sophisticated and professional tone, particularly within client facing and meeting spaces, while also embracing a more contemporary and inviting feel across the wider office. The design carefully balances these needs, creating a clear distinction between formal and informal zones while maintaining a cohesive overall identity.
The space planning prioritised flexibility and collaboration, with enhanced breakout areas designed to encourage interaction and connection between teams. These areas were positioned as social anchors within the floorplate, supporting informal meetings, downtime, and creative exchange, while allowing focused workspaces and meeting rooms to retain a more composed and refined atmosphere.
Materiality and colour played a central role in expressing the FQM brand. The scheme experiments with bolder colour accents and draws subtle inspiration from natural materials associated with mining, including zinc, copper and azurite. These references are layered thoughtfully through finishes, textures and detailing, offering moments of richness and depth without overwhelming the workspace. The result is an interior that feels grounded, tactile and distinctive, while remaining polished and professional.
Hero moments throughout the office elevate the overall experience. Bespoke artwork and three dimensional sculptural pieces crafted from metal were carefully curated to celebrate the landscapes and materials of mining, bringing a sense of narrative and identity into the space. These elements act as visual focal points, reinforcing the brand story and creating a memorable headquarters environment.
The completed office delivers a confident and expressive new home for First Quantem Minerals. Sophisticated yet contemporary, professional yet inviting, the space represents a showstopping headquarters that supports modern ways of working while celebrating the unique character and global identity of the FQM brand.
